Comprehensive Hail Repair Solutions
Roofing Wind & Hail Restoration
Severe storms can leave you damaged, disappointed, and feeling vulnerable. High winds, hail, and heavy rains can be downright scary but for many local residents, the aftermath is what really stings. Having to deal with insurance companies or ‘storm chasing’ contractors can often times be worse than anything Mother Nature had to offer.
The thing is, insurance restoration after a storm is mandatory. When your roof especially is suffering from missing or damaged materials, it can lead to water exposure that infiltrates the entire home. Soon your roof repair turns into insulation, drywall, and carpet replacement as well. This holds true for siding, gutters, and other exterior restoration projects as well – they were able to bear the brunt of the first storm, but find themselves exposed after the fact.
Hail Damage can be quite devastating!
When a hail storm blows through your neighborhood, there is no mistaking the thumping on your roof and the pinging in your gutters.
The tricky part is how to determine the amount of damage your roof took during the storm. Smaller hail stones less than a half-inch in diameter aren’t heavy enough to cause substantial roof damage, but any larger than that and you are talking serious damages.
If you notice any of the below signs, your roof is most likely damaged and you should call a roofer to at least check out and give you a damage estimate.
Shingle/Asphalt granules in the gutters
Larger chunks of hail will knock loose the asphalt coating in your shingles, which will then run down into your gutters, making this the number one sign of severe hail damage. If you have wood shingles, you will find shards of wood and splinters in your gutters. When granules are missing from your shingles, this leaves your roof exposed to the elements, which will quickly lead to leaks.
Broken or missing shingles
Missing shingles, whether caused by torrential wind or hail during a storm, can often be knocked loose from the roof. Because of the exposure to harsh elements, this is true of shingles on an older roof which have become brittle and lost their adhesive over time. When a big storm hits, it can reveal the hidden aging you didn’t recognize before.
Soft spongy spots on your roof
You can inspect your shingles up close for damp, soft spots if you feel comfortable getting up on your roof. These soft spots are places where large hail stones impacted your roof and left permanent damage that needs to be repaired.
Damage to other outside areas such as roof venting, fences, gutters, etc.
Look around outside to see what else around your home has taken damage as this is also an indicator of bad hail damage. Bent gutters, dented HVAC vents or A/C units, and torn up fences are all signs of a storm that was violent enough to have damaged your roof as well.
Having regular inspections of your roof by a qualified roofer will help you keep track of the aging and wear that happens over time, especially if you live in severe weather areas.
